Well try 65! That's right ! 65 vehicles a month are being produceed across the combined ETT production facilities of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, each month. That's an absolute record for Australia and challenges even the biggest producers worldwide. Sixty Five vehicles covering three versions of Type 1ambulances, ALS ambulances, patient transports, support vehicles and other specialist emergency vehicles. Add it up! LAUNCH AND LOAD – ONE BIG BIG DAY

On the same day that St John Ambulance WA was officially launching the newest and biggest member of its fleet – the ETT designed and built bariatric Sprinter ambulance – South Australian Ambulance Service’s new bariatric ambulance had just passed final QA and was being loaded on a truck for transport to Adelaide.

But back in Perth - WA Ambulance Service Director, Len Fiori, launched the new bariatric or Complex Patient Ambulance Transport ambulance (CPAT) handing over to the Manager of Metropolitan Operations, Bruce Fraser, to explain to waiting guests and press how this innovative new vehicle complete with automatic stretcher loading system, actually worked - Explaining in detail the revolution that this vehicle truly represented, in the areas of handling and transport of obese and complex patients.

ETT and sister company DHS Emergency have certainly become the leaders, worldwide, in development of bariatric ambulances and stretchers, now with vehicles in Western Australia, South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria – with enquiries coming from as far a field as the USA, the Gulf and SE Asia.

Official Lift Off

Big NEWS – On Friday 29th April 2010 DHS Emergency launched the future of stretchers at an official function at the Milperra factory. The new DHS ALS - auto load stretcher is here, heralding a new era for ambulance officers and paramedics.

“This will have a dramatic effect in the area of Occupational Health and Safety, in protecting ambulance officers from back injuries”, proclaimed Alan Moses, DHS & Byron Group Executive Director, speaking at the official release. “Following successful trials, we are very pleased to present the auto load stretcher – not just a notion or an idea but a product that works - a world first, that has been designed, developed and manufactured here in Australia.”

Before an audience of dignitaries including the Honourable Daryl Melham, the Member for Banks, as well as ambulance service managers and personnel from New Zealand and across Australia, the new ALS Stretcher was put through its paces. The presentation included a hands-on demonstration plus plenty of time, for those attending, to try the auto lift stretcher and patented auto loading system for themselves. Many were the comments of surprise at the ease of operation of the stretcher. As DHS designer and engineer, Chistian Le Clair, moved the combined patient, stretcher and loading system in out of the vehicle with one finger, many couldn’t believe their eyes – until they tried it for themselves.

The DHS ALS now goes into operation with Ambulance Service NSW, on an extended on-the-road “work-out” to prove its worth, preceding a road show in Victoria and Queensland and clinical trials in South Australia. “A high level of interest is being shown from ambulance services, both here and overseas,” says Mr Leigh O’Brien, General Manager of leading ambulance manufacturer, ETT, “as this is undoubtedly the future for patient handling. Manual stretchers and manual loading will soon be a thing of the past.”

The ALS – the auto load stretcher is a world first – a giant stride towards the future in the world of ambulance.

SMOOTH AS SILK

ETT is pleased to announce that the company is now the official Australian / New Zealand distributor of GLIDERITE air suspension systems as used recently on the Queensland Ambulance Service Bariatric ambulances.

After assessing the market for quality air suspension systems, ETT determined that GLIDERITE offered more advantages than other potential systems, not least because it is a Mercedes endorsed replacement suspension system. GLIDERITE , in fact, has spent an extraordinary amount of money working with Mercedes Germany to come up with the design and specifications for the system and continues to develop the system in conjunction with Mercedes.

The deal with GLIDERITE also includes the vast range of GLIDERITE accessible products further expanding the range of options available through ETT’s sister company, Accessible Transit Specialists (Artur.nersisyan@accessibletransit.com).

As an added bonus for both companies, (and proving the synergy) the GLIDERITE management found a number of innovative products from the Byron Group and ETT that they are interested in marketing in Great Britain.

ETT is very pleased to be involved with GLIDERITE and looks forward to bright and smooooooth ride to the future.

That’s a BIG JOB

Queensland Ambulance Service has transported their heaviest patient yet in one of the ETT designed and built bariatric ambulances – weighing in at 352kg the patient was a challenge for the crew to transport but once on the stretcher, loading and unloading into the ambulance was simple enough using the DHS power lift stretcher designed to lift 500kg and the fully automatic, on board, loading system. The specially trained crews found that all that training, experience and preparation had paid off, and whilst care was needed, the transport went without a hitch.

Bent and Twisted

Recently an ETT Sprinter ambulance came unstuck on the Lakes Way
near Forster on the NSW mid North Coast. Reportedly the vehicle
rolled at least 3 times - (accident investigation is yet to confirm details).

Everyone on board survived and as you can see the fit out components
took the beating remarkably well. .

Once again all that ETT 20G testing proves it's value.

Tall and Proud

ASNSW has just commissioned five new 4x4 Sprinter 315s on the road.

They're tall and proud and a real step up in drivability compared
to the earlier models. ETT has emploed a bunch of new inititiaves
in construction materials to reduce overall weight on board to
accommodate the reduced carrying capacity of the base vehicle.

Box Bodies are Back

Following in the wake of the highly successful bariatric box body ambulance, comes a raft of other box body designs for other ambulance applications. All use ETT's weight saving materials and designs.

The Nissan Patrol 4 x 6 was developed for Ambulance Service NSW as
a possible replacement for the Toyota Troopie and has been on the road
now for a few months. It has been well received offering, as it does, a
larger work platform than the Troopie ambulance.

4x4 variants of the same concept were also developed for BHP Billiton
and these vehicles are now in service and have had a good reception
on the mine sites in north WA.

Next in line is the box body to suit a Toyota Land cruiser cab chassis
and the Mercedes Sprinter cab chassis. Watch this space.

USAR

Recently, Ambulance Victoria had concerns over the proposed urban search and rescue vehicle, regarding the proposed payload and overloading the vehicle. AV commissioned ETT's engineering dept to run the figures via our computer modeling to show where the load would have to be positioned, how it could be stowed and what retention system would be needed to hold everything to 20G (the cargo barrier just didn't cut it...!)  Via our sophisticated computer modeling and finite element analysis were able to provide a full report on how it all could be done. A good result all round and far better than getting to the end of a build to discover the vehicle was illegal and unusable.

Ladies and Gentlemen - Introducing ERM

Emergency Resource Management (ERM) is the newly formed IT and electrical engineering arm of the Byron Group that is developing all the latest touch screen computer based switching technology being implemented into ETT vehicles.
The latest development from ERM, following consumer feedback is a can bus system that combines traditional "tactile" switching with touch screen information interfaces - some say the best of both worlds - traditional switches for emergency equipment operations such as lights and siren and touch screens for everything else.
It's a marriage of convenience perhaps, but as an adjunct to the full touch screen systems in so many ETT vehicles today, it's proving a very acceptable option. Still available to services is the ability to add modules for all sorts of data transfer - everything from GPS mapping linked to dispatch right through to patient data transfer.

Since his arrival, the changes have been considerable and extremely positive with serious improvements in production output, quality control and production systems.

ISO 9000

ETT is currently changing it's quality control system over to ISO 9002 from the CASA coverage previously employed.
The quality levels and demands are similar but what it has heralded is a full review of quality systems, procedures and paperwork. It has been a timely review that highlighted a few shortcomings that have now been addressed. The new system will also include a constant review process that is designed to keep up with the rapid and continuous growth of the company.
